Linehan wins WGGB Comedy Award

Graham Linehan was presented with the Ronnie Barker Writers' Guild of Great Britain award at the Comedy Awards in London last night.

Linehan, whose credits include co-creating and co-writing Father Ted and Black Books and creating and writing The IT Crowd, was presented with the award by Griff Rhys Jones. He received a standing ovation from the industry audience and paid tribute to his long-time co-writer Arthur Matthews.

Other winners at the 2009 Comedy Awards included:

  • Outnumbered (best sitcom and overall winner for best comedy)

  • Harry Hill's TV Burp  (best comedy entertainment)

  • Psychoville (best new television comedy)

  • In The Loop (best comedy film)

  •  Pulling (best comedy drama)
