Full Membership entitles you to Guild publications, free contract vetting service, membership of the Guild’s pension scheme, credit arbitration (pdf), full voting rights and a name and credits listing on this website’s Find a Writer database. We endeavour to provide the best professional help we can for all our members, in the form of the invaluable advice of other members and staff and from specialist media lawyers when required.
A Full Member shall be any person who has accumulated 8 Membership Points. Membership points shall be allocated as follows, subject to the discretion of the Executive Council:
- For each single piece of written work of any description for which reasonable payment has been received under written contract, in terms not less favourable than those existing in current minimum terms agreements negotiated by the Guild (where such agreements exist) - 8 points
- For each single piece of marketed written work produced or published other than under the terms of the previous paragraph - 4 points
- For each completed year of Candidate membership (up to four years) - 1 point.
Full members pay a subscription equal to 1.2 % of earnings from writing, subject to a minimum subscription of £180 and a maximum of £1,800. For example, a writer who earns less than £15,000 in a year from writing will pay £180 and a writer who earns £25,000 in a year will pay £300. Here's a table to help with your calculations.
